Once again, the 3rd International Photobook Award Kassel 2010 is presenting some of the best photobooks of the previous year that have been chosen by international experts. These authors, photographers, publicists, publishers, gallery owners, curators, specialist booksellers and collectors ? all personalities with a special affinity for the subject matter ? were invited by the Kasseler Fotoforum to nominate their favorite photobook of the previous year and to justify their choice with a personal statement. This publication contains all 24 nominations. The international selection shows how incredibly fascinating, expressive and lively photography can become inside a book. Especially successful photobooks merge excellent photographic narrative structure and drive with equally important external design elements, such as material, format and complexity. After viewing the nominated books, one wants to unreservedly agree with Jeffrey Ladd?s statement that photography works best in conjunction with the book format. The purpose of this award is to experience the photobook as an independent artistic medium.
