One of the founders of modern Czech photography and film. In 1940 he became a citizen of the U.S.A. and began to go by the name of Hammid. He played a key role in American avant-garde film. His dynamic conception of space, conveyed with his experience as a cameraman and film-editor, manifested itself in his photographic work.
