Osamu Kanemura: Germany, Finland
In - between 12
HC 20 x 17 cm.
EU - Japan Fest Japan Committee 2005

Photographed in Germany:
Kanemura has long photographed cities in his solid monochromes, but this is his first full-fledged photography in this vein outside Japan. Kanemura depicts the evolving cities of Germany, including Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne and Munich.

Photographed in Finland:
Finland in the depths of winter, with temperatures well below freezing. Kanemura has shot such cities as the capital of Helsinki, Finland's second city Tanpere and Turku, which flourished as the country's capital until the early 19th century, in the distinctive light of Scandinavia.

"You cannot speak of a part of something if you haven´t understood the whole." Kanemura -

"His dark, graphically dense, and tangled pictures capture the pace and material essence of a city that is more a product of unchecked growth than of design." MOMA -
